Celebrating the Queens Diamond Jubilee in Cape Town

Norman Brook was recently honoured to be invited by Chris Trott, the Consul General at the British Consulate-General in Cape Town, to fire one of the cannons at an event held to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

A twelve gun salute to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee took place at the historic East Fort on Chapman’s Peak Drive which overlooks Hout Bay. The salute was conducted using six cannons restored by the Hout Bay Historic Trust.

The cannons are maintained and fired on special ocassions by the Honourable Order of Hout Bay Artillerymen. The cannons overlook Hout Bay and ironically were last fired in anger by the French on a British Frigate.
